Selenite

Selenite, desert rose and gypsum flower are all crystal varieties of the mineral gypsum. According to holism, selenite has cleansing properties, but is also a beautiful gemstone because of the changing stripes that run through it. The stone has similarities in looks to the Cat-eye glass beads, but is naturally created and therefore more expensive. All varieties of gypsum, including selenite and alabaster, consist of calcium sulfate dihydrate (meaning it has two water molecules) with the chemical formula CaSO4-2H2O. However, selenite does not contain a significant amount of selenium, the similar names are both derived from the Greek word selene meaning "Moon".
Some of the largest crystals ever found are selenite, and the largest specimen found in the Naica mine, Cave of the Crystals, was 12 meters long and weighed a whopping 55 tons.
