DIY | Earrings with Summer Flowers

Summer is finally here - and with it comes an endless variety of beautiful flowers in all shades and colours! 😍🌸🌻🌼🌹😍
This year's fashion and jewellery trends dictate FLOWERS, so in this blog post Charlotte has created a series of unique designs with seed bead flowers,. With thread, needle and a bit of patience, you can turn your stockpile of beads into playful, elegant and eye-catching earrings that you can either wear yourself or present as a personalised and unique jewellery gift.
The colours and sizes of the designs can be varied endlessly - you decide what goes along with your style. As always when we are sewing or weaving with seed beads, we recommend choosing brands such as Miyuki, Toho or Matsuno, as they offer the highest level of consistency. At the same time, it is not advisable to mix different brands, as variations between types can lead to unevenness in the final result.

Seed Bead Flower Earstuds

We used the following DIY components for these earrings:

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, light topaz

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, 24 carat gold-plated

1 pair of earstuds with 2mm ball, gold-plated sterling silver

2 x 1m FireLine, 6LB, black

+ beading needle

Cut off 1m of FireLine ... and string 5 golden beads.

Sew through the beads one more time to form a loop.

Tie a double knot. The thread end should be approx. 8cm long.

Sew through the bead to the right of the knot.

String 1 green bead ... and sew through the next golden bead on the left. You sew around in a circle... from right to left.

String 1 green bead again ... and sew through the next golden bead.

Continue in the same way all the way round, adding a green bead between the golden beads.

When you add on the last green bead, you sew through 2 beads in order to prepare the next round (see picture).

Now comes round 3 ... String 3 green beads ... and sew through the next green bead.

Continue in the same way all the way round.... sewing on 2 green beads at a time. When you add the last 2 beads, you sew through 2 green beads (see picture).

String 2 green beads again ... and sew through the next green bead. This is the first petal of the flower.

Sew through the next 2 beads.

Again you string 2 beads ... and sew through the next green bead. This is the second petal of the flower.

Continue in the same way all the way round.

When you add the fifth petal, you sew through 3 beads.

String 2 beads ... and sew through the next bead.

String 1 golden bead ... and sew through the top bead to the right in the 2nd petal.

Continue in the same way all the way round... by sewing 2 green beads to the top of each petal and 1 gold bead between the petals.

When you add the last golden bead, you sew through 2 green beads.

Then you string 2 green beads again ... and sew through the next green bead in the 1st petal.

String 1 golden bead ... and sew through the next golden bead - which is placed a little further down.

String 1 golden bead ... and sew through the next green bead.

String 2 green beads ... and sew through the next green bead.

Continue all the way round ... adding 2 green beads to each petal.... and 2 golden beads between the petals.

When you add the last golden bead, you sew through 2 green beads.

String 2 green beads ... and sew through the next green bead.

String 1 golden bead ... sew through the next golden bead...

... and through 2 golden beads more.

String 1 golden bead ... and sew through the next green bead (see picture).

Continue in the same way all the way round and move up one bead when the round is complete.

String 1 green bead ... and sew through the next green bead. Now there is only one bead at the tip of the petal.

String 1 golden bead ... and sew through the next 2 golden beads.

After that, you through through the next 3 golden beads. Continue all the way around ... adding 1 green bead to the top of each petal + 1 more golden bead on each side of the petals.

When the last golden bead is added, you sew through 2 green beads - so the thread comes out of the green bead at the tip.

String 2 golden beads ... and sew through 2 golden beads.

String 1 golden beads ... and sew through the last 2 golden beads (see picture).

String 2 golden beads ... and sew through the green bead at the top of the petal.

String 2 golden beads ... and sew through the next 2 golden beads.

Continue in the same way all the way round. When you add the last 2 gold beads, you sew through 1 green and 1 golden bead.

Then you continue sewing through all the golden beads between the 1st and 2nd petal...

... so the thread comes out of the last golden bead.

String 3 golden beads ... and sew through the next golden bead.

Continue in the same way ... adding 3 golden beads to each petal tip.

Secure both thread ends by sewing through random beads   and cut off the excess thread.

For our example, we use an earstud with a 2mm ball.

Insert the earstud through the centre of the flower.... and your new flower earstud is ready.

Delica Flower Earstuds

For these earstuds, we used Deliza beads in size #15. As a result, the flower becomes slightly smaller and the petals more pointy.

Delica beads, size #15, turquoise green

Delica beads, size #15, 24 karat gold-plated

1 pair of earstuds with 2mm ball, gold-plated sterling silver

2 x 1m FireLine, 6LB, white (alternatively FireLine size 4LB)

+ beading needle

You sew this flower in the same way as explained in the 1st example.

Little Seed Bead Flower Earstuds

We used the following DIY components for these earrings:

Miyuki seed beads, size #11,  yellow luster

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, watermelon pink

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, light topaz

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, 24 karat gold-plated

2 beads, 3mm, gold-plated sterling silver

1 pair of earstuds with cup (without peg), gold-plated sterling silver

2 x 1m FireLine, 6LB, white

+ beading needle

+ jewellery glue

Cut off approx. 1m thread ... and string 12 green beads.

Sew one more time through all the beads to form a loop.

Tighten the thread. The thread end should be approx. 8cm long.

Tie a double knot.

Sew through the 2 beads to the left of the knot. You always from right to left.

String 3 pink beads ... skip 1 green bead ... and sew through the next green bead.

Again you string 3 pink beads ... skip 1 green bead ... and sew through the next green bead.

Continue in the same way all the way round. When you add the last 3 pink beads, you sew through 3 beads to prepare for the next round (see picture).

Now, the flower has got 6 petals.

String 1 yellow + i golden + 1 yellow bead. Sew through the top bead of the next pink petal (see picture).

String the same set of 3 beads again ... and sew through the top bead of the next petal.

When you finish this round, you prepare for the next round by sewing through a total of 4 beads (1 pink + 1 yellow + 1 golden + 1 yellow).

Please make sure that the thread comes out of a yellow bead before you start this round.

String 3 yellow beads ... and sew through 1 yellow + 1 golden + 1 yellow bead.

String 3 yellow beads again and repeat ...

Continue in the same way all the way round.... 6 yellow tips are taking shape.

Add the last 3 yellow beads ...

... sew through the next pink bead (see picture)...

... and the pink bead next to it.

Then you sew through the next green bead.

String 1 gold-plated bead with a diameter of 3mm ... and sew Før 1 stk. 3mm forgyldt perle på tråden. And sew through the green bead that is directly opposite the bead the thread comes out of.

Sew back through the 3mm bead...

... and then through the 1st green bead (see picture). The golden bead in the centre is now fastened.

You can finish the earring already now by glueing the golden bead in the middle into the cup the earstud.

String 3 green beads ... skip 1 green bead ... and sew through the next green bead.

Now, you sew in the other direction.

Sew back through the last one of the three green beads (see picture).

String 2 green beads ... skip 1 green bead ... and sew through the next green bead.

One more time: Sew back through the last one of the three green beads ...

Continue in the same way until you have completed 5 green tips.

Now you make the last green tip. String 1 green bead ... and sew down through the 1st of the green beads (in the 1st tip). See picture.

Continue sewing through the green beads ... until the thread comes out of the top bead of one of the green tips.

Apply a bit of jewellery glue on the cup of the earstud...

... and place it carefully on the golden bead in the middle of the flower. Let the glue dry before you close the back.

After the glue has dried, you close the back by sewing around the 6 top beads a few times. Tighten the thread so that the cup of the earstud is hidden.

Secure the thread ends by sewing through random beads ... and cut off the excess thread.

The first earstud with beaded flower is now complete.

Earstuds with Sunflower

We used the following DIY components for these earrings:

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, chocolate brown

Miyuki seed beads, size #11, orange squash

Miyuki seed beads, size str. #11, yellow luster

1 pair of earstuds with crystal, gold-plated sterling silver

2 x 1m FireLine, size 6LB, white

+ beading needle

Cut off approx. 1m thread ... and string 8 brown beads.

Tie a double knot. The thread end should be approx. 8cm long. Now you have a ring of beads.

Sew through the bead on the left side of the knot. You sew from right to left (anti-clockwise).

String 5 beads ... skip 1 beads ... and sew through the next bead. These 5 beads form the first point.

Repeat theses step twice. When you add the last 5 beads, you sew through 3 beads to prepare for the next round.

Now you have four points.

Sew through the next 2 brown beads.

String 3 beads ... and sew through the 3 top beads in the next point (see picture).

Repeat these steps twice.

When you add the last 3 beads, you do'nt sew through 3 beads - but through 1 bead only to finish the round.

String 5 orange squash beads ... skip 1 bead ... and sew through the next 2 beads.

One more time: String 5 orange beads ... skip 1 bead ... and sew through the next 2 beads.

Continue in the same way until you have 8 yellow petals. Here the 8th petal is sewn on ......

Sew through the 2 first orange beads in the first petal.

String 5 light yellow beads ... skip 1 bead ... and sew through the next bead (see picture).

String 1 brown bead ... and sew through the 2nd bead in the next petal (see picture).

One more time: String 5 light yellow beads ... skip 1 bead ... and sew through the next bead.

Continue in the same way all the way round. At the end of the round, you sew through 3 beads (see picture).

Now you sew an extra round to make the petals of the sunflower more pointed.

Skip 1 bead (the one at the top) ... and sew through the next bead. This way, the petal becomes more firm and pointed.

Sew through the next 6 beads ... skip 1 bead ... and sew through the next bead.

Continue in the same way all the way round.

Secure the thread ends by sewing through random beads ... and cut off the excess thread.

Pass the crystal earstud through the centre of the sunflower.

Your new sunflower earstud is now complete.

Miyuki seed beads, size #15, 24 karat gold-plated

Miyuki seed beads, size #15, matte canary yellow

Miyuki seed beads, size #15, light lemon yellow

1 pair of earstuds with 2mm ball, gold-plated sterling silver

2 x 1m FireLine, 6LB, white (alternatively FireLine size 4LB)
