Howlite

Here you find Smyks’ assortment of beads made of howlite. Howlite, also known as “white buffalo stone” or “white buffalo turquoise”, is an almost translucent semi-precious stone with grey or black veining. Because of its natural translucency, it can easily be dyed. Dyed varieties have for a long time been used as turquoise imitation. Pure and completely transperant howlite crystals are very rare, the largest crystal ever found measured only 1 cm.  At Smyks, you will find howlite beads which have been dyed white in order to showcase the stones’ beautiful black and brown veins.

Howlite: Stones with the Most Beautiful Natural Veins

Howlite is a beautiful and versatile stone that is often used in jewelry making due to its distinctive properties. The chemical composition of howlite primarily consists of calcium borate silicate, and its appearance varies from white to chalk-white with marble-like veins in blue, green, or turquoise.

The Use of Howlite Throughout History

Historically, howlite has been used in jewelry and as a decorative element through generations. Originally found in Canada, the stone was first discovered in the 19th century. However, howlite has also been valued in other cultures where it was considered a stone with soothing properties that could help reduce stress and promote a sense of calm and patience.

Astrology, Zodiac Signs, and Howlite

Howlite is believed to have connections to several astrological signs, with some believing that the stone possesses properties that can be beneficial for certain zodiac signs. Specifically, it is said that howlite is associated with the Taurus zodiac sign. Taurus is known for its earthy connection and stability, and howlite is believed to enhance Taurus's qualities by imparting calmness, patience, and emotional balance.

Some practices in astrology and crystal healing believe that howlite can also be beneficial for other zodiac signs like Sagittarius and Aries. Sagittarius, associated with adventure and wisdom, may enjoy howlite's calming effect, while Aries, full of energy and initiative, may find support and tranquility through howlite's soothing properties.

However, these connections between howlite and astrology are often based on individual beliefs and may vary among different sources within crystal healing and astrology.
