Crystal Easter Egg

For this Easter egg, you need the following DIY components:

Crystal beads, light golden yellow, 136 pcs.

Nylon beading thread, 0.50mm, approx. 3m

1 pinch bail, gold-plated steel

+ jewellery glue

+ scissors

These beautiful Easter eggs consist of 8x8x7.5mm square acrylic beads.

They are crafted with the same sewing technique we used for the Christmas bauble. The Easter egg and Christmas bauble are identical up to and including the third round. For detailed instructions, please read our blog post DIY Christmas baubles.

Here is a brief overview of the first three rounds:

First, you string 5 beads ... and sew through the first bead to form a circle.

Round 1

The 1st round constists of 5 circles with 6 beads each.

Round 2

The 2nd round consists of 10 circles that alternate between 6 and 5 beads.

(Before you start a new circle, you move on through 1 or 2 beads, respectively.)

Round 3

The 3rd round consists of 10 circles with 6 beads each.

...............

Now you start the 4th round.

It consists of 10 circles that alternate between 7 and 8 beads.

First, you string 5 beads.

Close the circle by passing the thread through 2 beads. Now, there are 7 beads in the first circle.

Move on through 2 beads.

String 4 beads...

... and close the circle by passing the thread back through 2 beads.

Now, there are 8 beads in the 2nd circle. Move on through 2 beads.

Continue in the same way all the way round. When you start the last circle, you move on through 4 beads.

String 2 beads ... and close the circle by passing the thread through 1 bead. (The last circle consists of 8 beads.)

Please note .... in this picture, the piece of work is reversed to make it easier to see where the beads are positioned.

Now you start making the 5th round.

It consists of 5 circles with 8 beads in each.

First, you move on through 2 beads.

Turn your piece of work ... and string 5 beads.

Close the circle by passing the thread through 2 beads.

Move on through 3 beads ... (the piece of work is turned around) ...

... string 3 beads ...

... and close the circle by passing the thread back through 2 beads.

When you start the next circle, you move on through 5 beads.

String 1 bead ... and close the circle by passing the thread back through this new bead.

Pass each thread through 2 beads (in opposite directions).

To finish the Easter egg, you need 1 bead and 1 pinch bail.

Press the bail firmly around the bead.

Attach the top bead by passing both threads through it.

Tie a double knot and secure the ends by sewing through random beads. If necessary, add a little glue to the knot to prevent it from unravelling.

Cut off the excess thread and tie a ribbon to the egg, if you like.
